Typical Difficulties

It is not necessary that a student have serious difficulties in order to benefit from Hampshire Country School, but the school is designed to work with and/or absorb difficulties such as the following which may be severe in other settings.

Possible Social Difficulties: “Young” for age; Difficulty making friends; Strong interests that do not match those of peers; Isolated; Expresses irritation through unnecessary anger or explosions; Need for everyone else to be perfect.

Possible Behavioral Difficulties: Distractible; Fidgety; Compulsive; Rigid; Impatient; Impulsive; Intense; Easily frustrated; Tense or anxious; Wanting or needing an unusual amount of adult attention.

Possible Scholastic Difficulties: Very weak in some areas (e.g. math) while very strong in others (e.g. reading); Expect all learning to be easy and quick; Disorganized; Failure to complete assignments; Difficulty with written work; Difficulty with abstract or multi-step assignments; Need for clear expectations
