Mrs. Föcking grew up at summer camp and has been working at camps since she was 16 years old. She has gone through the ranks and has filled the positions of counselor in training, counselor, lifeguard, waterfront director, and division leader for boys going into 3rd grade through 6th grade. Mrs. Föcking's role at Timbertop Camp includes being responsible for staff training and supervision, parent communication, and the direct management of all camp affairs. Did we mention that Mrs. Föcking is a famous campfire leader? Our Counselors Selecting and hiring our counselors is done with the same attention and careful selection as accepting our campers. Dorm counselors are at least 21 years of age and have had previous experience working at a summer camp. We look for counselors who have a natural urge to teach, not just in activities but also in the dorm, during meals, and during other parts of the program. Aside from teaching, we look for educators who have the skill and desire to take care of their campers. Taking care of one another's needs is an integral part of the Hampshire Country School/Timbertop Camp experience. Having a high staff-to-camper ratio is important, even more important is to fill those positions with high-quality counselors. This is one of the ways we keep our setting comfortable and relaxed, with the maximum possible dedication and connection to our campers. All staff members participate in a comprehensive 8-day training prior to camper arrival. Staff training includes practical training in specific areas, education on the needs of our population, integration of the Hampshire Country School philosophy, learning about individual campers, and preparing the dorms. All staff members are subject to a criminal background check and are also checked against the state and national sex-offender database.
