Biography

My name is Amanda Zaborowski, and I’m excited to be teaching music at HCS this year! I grew up in a very musical family. My mom was a piano teacher, and I learned piano mostly through osmosis and a little friendly competition with her students. Every weekend, we would drive to Boston for the New England Conservatory preparatory program, where I studied violin, viola, and choral music while participating in a variety of ensembles and theory classes.

Music didn’t capture my heart right away. It wasn’t until I began teaching private lessons at 16 that I realized music isn’t just about perfection or technique. It’s a way to express yourself, explore new things, and find joy. This philosophy has shaped the way I teach, and it’s the same attitude I hope my students embrace, seeing music as meaningful, creative, and fun.

For college, I attended Berklee College of Music, where I ventured beyond the classical world and explored nearly every style that interested me. Fiddle, songwriting, and even a Mariachi ensemble were among my favorite experiences. Later, I moved to the West Coast for graduate work at the University of Oregon, where I held a teaching fellowship and performed with the Eugene Symphony.

Outside of teaching, I’m a mom of four (three girls and one boy), and our household is full of both kids and critters. We raise quail and rabbits, have three birds and two cats, and I dream of one day living on a farm. I’m endlessly curious and love exploring new hobbies, whether it’s foraging, homesteading, or trying my hand at creative projects.

I’m excited to get to know the students, staff, and families at HCS this year and to build a space where music feels alive, inspiring, and full of possibility.
