My name is Joshua Fox. I have worked in education since 2004, teaching mathematics, tutoring, and helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in college-level science, math, and writing. I especially enjoy the challenge of finding the right way to explain something so that a student can see it from a new angle and, ideally, discover that they can do more than they thought they could. I earned my degree with honors from Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, where I studied psychology, philosophy, mathematics, and history. My interests have always crossed disciplines, and I think that curiosity is an important part of how I approach teaching. At ASU, I worked as a statistics consultant and lecturer before spending several years as an academic preparedness counselor and tutor. This is my first year at HCS. I was drawn to the school by its setting, its belief in the healing power of nature, and especially its individualized approach to education. I appreciate the opportunity to teach mathematics and STEM in a way that starts with the student in front of me. There is no single way to learn mathematics, and I enjoy figuring out what helps each student make a connection. I have always loved explaining things, whether that means working through a difficult statistics problem, finding a different way into a mathematical concept, or helping a student recognize the pattern or elegance hiding inside an equation. I hope to bring that enthusiasm, along with a fair amount of curiosity, to the classroom every day. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, playing guitar, and practicing yoga. I share my home with two cats, Nugget and Jimbo. After spending years in the Phoenix desert, I am especially happy to be surrounded by the woods, fields, ponds, and seasons of New Hampshire. |
